Nose Works

Nose Works is the latest training activity that develops your dog’s natural scenting abilitiesTalos' sniffer through fun and games. The sport leverages every dog’s amazing sense of smell and their love of performing a task.

Geared for dogs of all shapes, sizes and ages—Nose Works has found enthusiastic participants seeking a lower impact canine activity that offers great rewards for both handlers and their dogs.

By utilizing basic search dog skills, the sport builds confidence, burns off mental and physical energy, and reinforces the bond between dog and owner.

Course offered at Frederick County Humane Society on Wednesdays starting February 9 at 7:30p.

Please Note: Dogs should be comfortable spending time alone in their crate (out of sight) or in your car while the other dogs take their turn.

What you get

  • Six weeks of small-group instruction (1 hour each week) on the basics of Nose Works. As well as a required, free Orientation session.
  • Two Certified Professional Dog Trainers - Cari Messick and Laurie Luck - to teach the course.
  • Structured and comfortable environment in which to learn.
  • A fun way to enjoy spending time with your dog!

How will it help me?

This course focuses on developing and utilizing the scenting skills of your dog. You will learn:

  • how to read your dog's body language indicating he's alerted to the "find"
  • handling skills to help your dog find the scent
  • foundation Nose Work rules and protocol
  • how to set up your own Nose Works course at home

And your dog will have a blast utilizing his superior sniffing skills!
