Lucky

Update: Lucky was diagnosed in September 2007 with a myriad of heart troubles, none of which can be cured. The prognosis is six to eighteen months. He is on several medications to help his heart and is a participant in an FDA study, as well. We know we're on borrowed time, so we try to make every day special for him. It could be extra snuggle time, a nice and easy walk, a car ride, or the chance to learn something new with the clicker. We're hoping to have him for Christmas this year - if we do, it we'll make it extra special for Lucky!

A problem dog who was facing possible euthanasia due to his behavior problems, Lucky is responsible for teaching Laurie that patience, kindness, and dog-friendly training (clicker training to be specific) was the way to communicate with and teach dogs. She is happy to report that Lucky's progress has been steady over the years and that he's still an eager learner, even at the ripe old age of 14.

Although he's slowing down, he'll still give the other dogs a run for their money each day, and is the patriarch of our clan. It's a responsibility he takes seriously. He's helped raise four service pups in training. His leadership style is benevolent, and is often found with the newest service pup curled up next to him asleep.
