Honeydew - service dog #5
Eight weeks old and cute as a button. Honeydew joined us in August 2007 --
the fifth service pup to grace our family. She's as smart as she is
cute. A quick study, she started coming to work with me at the tender
age of twelve weeks. She's been quite the hit at the office and had
made quite a few friends. What I like most about her is her steadiness
-- she's not flighty (like Nemo) and has the most
"common sense" of all the pups I've raised.
She found a true friend in Nemo - he was the only dog in the house who
was interested in her and who would play with her. Initially the Labs
and Lucky ignored her or would respectfully tell her to keep her distance.
She is gaining coordination every day and is becoming quite athletic
- enjoying chasing Nemo around the yard.

Honeydew - October 2006
Update - November 2006
Honeydew is growing so quickly and is getting smarter each day. In October she traveled on the Washington, DC Metro train system with me to talk to the United States Department of Commerce about service dogs and their role in society. She was the picture of perfection -- nothing fazed her. Not the trains, the emergency fire drill, or the city streets. She's shaping up to be quite a remarkable trainee.
